CSCW is a premier venue for presenting research in the design and use of technologies that affect groups, organizations, and communities. CSCW encompasses both the technical and social challenges encountered when supporting collaboration. The development and application of new technologies continues to enable new ways of working together and coordinating activities. Although work is an area of focus, CSCW embraces research and technologies supporting a wide range of recreational and social activities using a diverse range of devices. The conference brings together top researchers and practitioners from academia and industry who are interested in both technical and social aspects of collaboration.

The CSCW program is the largest program of any CSCW conference. On Saturday and Sunday, February 11 and 12, the program includes 15 workshops and a doctoral colloquium. All other venues will be held Monday through Wednesday (February 13 to 15). The conference will open Monday morning with a presentation by Professor Yochai Benkler (Harvard University), the author of The Wealth of Networks: How Social Production Transforms Markets and Freedom.

Recently Professor Judith Olson received the 2011-2012 ACM Athena Award for research contributions to computer science, and on Tuesday she will give her award lecture. We will close the conference on Wednesday with a presentation by Dean Marietta Baba (Michigan State University), who is known for her contributions to organizational anthropology.
