Conference on Innovation and Entrepreneurship PODIM – this year in its thirty-second year – is Slovenia’s largest and leading conference on enterprise. Every year it offers two days of intensive courses where all key stakeholders in Slovenian technology enterprise come together.

Through a series of round tables, lectures and workshops held at the conference, well-known Slovenian and foreign guests present the latest findings in the field of building technology start-ups both from practical and academic perspectives.

Conference structure

Lectures – Conference lectures are aimed at presenting modern and state-of-the-art findings in the field of enterprise from both practical and academic viewpoints. Prominent Slovenian and foreign speakers in the field of small enterprise will be speaking at the conference. The lectures are tailored to the topic of each year’s conference.

Round tables – PODIM conference roundtables are a platform for in-depth debates on various entrepreneurial topics of interest with well-known guests from small enterprise, the economy, universities and state bodies. The aim of round tables is to for certain findings, guidelines and recommendations for entrepreneurs after presentation of the views of the various guests on the entrepreneurial topic in question and after a debate involving all participants.

Workshops – Workshops represent the most practice-oriented part of the PODIM conference. They are led by experienced enterprise mentors from both Slovenia and abroad as well as experts in various fields of enterprise. Workshops represent an opportunity for participants to actively participate with their case studies and challenges, thus allowing them to immediately integrate the skills they learn into their business. To ensure the high quality workshops, the number of participants is limited; however, several workshops take place at the same time, offering participants a good selection.

Gala Start:up Slovenia ceremony – The first day of the PODIM conference is rounded off by the awards ceremony for the best start-ups of the year. Start:up Slovenia is a national competition of start-ups, originally designed by Tovarna podjemov and first organised with its partners in 2007.

Networking and entertainment – Networking during breaks, working lunches and dinners allows participants to exchange their opinions and experience and forge relationships that serve as a good starting point for professional advancement and future cooperation. After the awards ceremony for the best Slovenian Start-up, a late-night party is organised for all conference participants.

Management International Conference (MIC) is a traditional conference for scholars of management studies, welcoming participants from around the world, with broad and diverse research interests. Its aim is to present and discuss research that contributes to the sharing of new theoretical, methodological and empirical knowledge, and to better understanding of management practices.

The special focus of MIC 2011 is on the controversial issue of whether, and how, sustainability can really be “managed”. Sustainability has become one of the highest priorities on social development and corporate responsibility agendas, yet the concept remains highly contested. On the one hand, it has evolved from being a “limit to growth” of economies and businesses into a comprehensive alternative development paradigm and practice. On the other hand, it has also devolved into being a “commodity” that sells well on the market and that can be managed in ways similar to other business or social resources. Where on this broad range of possible meanings do we find our current personal, corporate and policy practices? Why is sustainability so fashionable? Is future sustainable and is there a future for sustainability?

The course is aimed at the fundamentals of how to review a database and why and does not focus on simply running tools.
