IDC Storage, Virtualization and Datacenter Efficiency Roadshow 2009
| May 14, 2009 |
Art ‘Otel Budapest
Budapest, Hungary
A global economic slowdown affects IT investment decisions by corporations and public institutions alike, but it does not affect their need for data, nor does it remove stringent requirements for data retention and protection. The situation does, however, increase IT pressures to boost efficiency and derive greater business value from investments. This can be achieved by better utilizing existing infrastructure and through wise implementation of new technologies.
IDC’s traditional Storage, Virtualization, and Datacenter Efficiency Roadshow has established itself as a recognized regional platform for exchanging experience, ideas, and best practices between storage solution users, independent experts, and industry leaders. Through keynote presentations, case studies, exhibition displays, discussion, and networking, the event aims to help participants explore ways to increase efficiency, reduce costs, and achieve higher ROI by looking beyond speeds, capacities, and power consumption.
Visiting 15 cities in the fast-developing region of Central and Eastern Europe, Middle East and Africa the IDC Storage, Virtualization and Datacenter Efficiency Roadshow provides a comprehensive look at current data storage and management issues, with a focus on the most critical themes, such as:
- Utilization and efficiency: automation, consolidation, virtualization, outsourcing
- IT sustainability: compatibility, technology standardization
- Infrastructure costs: power consumption, cooling systems
- Compliance: data protection and data retention requirements

09:00 Welcome address, opening of the conference
Komáromi Zoltán, ügyvezető igazgató, IDC Hungary
09:10 Independent key-note speaker presentation
09:40 New Economic Reality: Bright Times Ahead for Storage Virtualization
Fauszt Gábor, elemző, IDC Hungary
The worsening economic circumstances have been forcing many company data storage managers to rethink their expense strategy while still getting the most out of their IT infrastructure. The growth in the storage market doesn’t stop but the pace seen in the CEE region and Hungary will definitely slow down. Projects already in process will be continued but those in the planning stages will be rethought with the best price/performance ratio in mind. The cost cutting strategies employed by most companies are favoring such cost effective technologies as storage virtualization.
10:10 How virtualization help the IT efficiency?
Paul Butterworth, Enterprise Technology Strategist, Microsoft
Microsoft has been developing and evolving its Virtualisation strategy for some time now. With recent major releases in Server, Application, Desktop and Management Virtualisation technologies, we are now in a position to be able to provide customers with new a set of complementary technologies in the Virtualisation space. This session will take you through Microsoft’s overall vision for Virtualisation as well as providing an insight into the key new technologies in the Microsoft portfolio that you can adopt to increase your operational efficiency whilst reducing costs.
10:35 Networking with partners, coffee break
11:05 VMware presentation
11:30 Use 90% less space for backup!
Pulai András, technikai tanácsadó, Symantec
Our IT budget is stressed by expensive, redundant backup processes at each location, creating islands of disparate hardware, software, data, and resources. NetBackup PureDisk decreases operational costs because
• Tape drives, magnetic tapes, and off-site storage can be eliminated from all remote sites
• Aging equipment and tape media does not need to be continually repaired or replaced
• Backup data is compressed and deduped by agents on the client side, so that only the minimum amount of data is sent across the network and stored in centralized storage pools
• Integration with Symantec Veritas NetBackup software allows for centralized off-loading to tape at the data center
• Cost-efficient, capacity-based pricing based on the amount of data stored (after data compression and deduplication)
11:55 Fujitsu Technology Solutions’s answer to the new economic challenge – Managed Infrastructures, Managed Storage
NetApp – delivering world-leading storage efficiency in Virtualisation environments
Taál János, vezető termékmenedzser , Fujitsu Computers Kft.
Dr. Hans Lamprecht, Key Account Manager SEE, NetApp
Fujitsu Technology Solutions’s answer to the new economic challenge – Managed Infrastructures, Managed Storage
- What are the main elements of the new storage strategy of Fujitsu?
- How can a customer gain benefits from managed infrastructures?
- Managed Storage success story – lessons learned
- NetApp and Fujitsu – long-time strategic relationship, tested and proven solutions
NetApp – delivering world-leading storage efficiency in Virtualisation environments
Virtualizing your servers is only half the story. According to both Gartner and IDC, you need to consider storage as part of the solution if you want to realize the promise of a truly virtualized environment. Whether you’re looking for new ways to lower cost, improve scalability or improve service level agreements, integrating storage as part of the overall solution will enable you to:
- Bring your products, services and projects to market faster
- Save up to 50% on storage power, cooling and space to lower your overall data center costs
- Scale your virtualized environment and accommodate data growth without degrading performance or investing in additional storage
With NetApp you get the flexibility, high availability and cost effectiveness required to grow your virtual environment.
12:20 Buffet lunch
13:20 Infrastructure Management and Data Center Efficiency
Szarka Attila, senior rendszer mérnök, APC Hungary
Green data center means mainly the energy efficiency of the IT and its supporting infrastructure. Optimal results can be achieved only if both the IT solutions and the elements of the infrastructure comply with the green requirements. Without the support of a robust monitoring system you won’t know if the goals are achieved or remained the same after changes in the life time of a data center. A complex management system can additionally increase the savings, and reduce possible risks of changes. The presentation introduces some opportunities and supporting tools to save.
