An Oracle Real Application Cluster (RAC) has many aspects that have not been previously discussed. By looking in greater depth at what RAC is, we can take better advantage of some of the great features that RAC provides. Cache fusion, where blocks are shared between instances with minimal access to storage, is the secret behind RAC’s scalability.

From server consolidation to distributed workload management and optimizing for high performance, and by looking into the internals of RAC, a better understanding of how this works can be achieved. Usage of database services and achieving distributed workload management across multiple instances, how to implement FAN, FCF and ONS for proactive load balancing and failover, and implementation and details around client side and server side TAF configuration will all be discussed. Also, how to manage, monitor and trace Oracle sessions in an RAC environment, including looking at performance tuning methods and optimization. This seminar will look at RAC from under the bonnet in a high level of detail to provide an excellent understanding of the technology.
