Performance Based Logistics (PBL) contracts, sometimes referred to as Performance Based Objective/Outcome (PBO) contracts, move toward allowing Defense to pay for performance of a product rather than paying for the product initially and then all subsequent sustainment of the product throughout the product lifecycle. This method of contracting is becoming more prevalent as the Department of Defense (DoD) tries to decrease lifecycle costs while improving end-customer satisfaction.
