The decision to adopt SharePoint 2010 as a development platform by executive leaders can present significant cost savings for the enterprise in terms of reduced technology stack, lower O&M costs and streamlined application lifecycle management, whether this is an on premise, cloud or hybrid instance. However, organizations that are upgrading from SharePoint 2003 or 2007 instances used as point solutions or document management solutions may have challenges in planning for governance, information architecture, LOB integration and resource management when adopting “SharePoint as a Platform.”
