The 4th European conference on Computer-Aided Qualitative Research (CAQRE2011) will be held on the 1 and 2 September 2011 in Locarno, Switzerland. The aim of this conference is to bring together researchers, practitioners and trainers to discuss the latest technologies for advancing qualitative research through the use of desktop software, mobile computing and web 2.0 platforms. This conference will be co-organised jointly by Merlien Institute and the University of Applied Sciences and Arts of Southern Switzerland (SUPSI) based in Locarno, Switzerland.

Researchers, practitioners and trainers are encouraged to submit their presentation abstracts including but not limited to the topics of interests listed below:

1. Emergence of online qualitative analysis platforms: what are their implications for research?
2. Qualitative research collaboration through cloud computing: how to work and share via the web?
3. Discussing new and emerging qualitative data analysis software for qualitative research
4. Assessing the quality, validity and reliability of qualitative research of different QDA software packages
5. Convergence of GIS into QDA software: what are the challenges and opportunities for research?
6. Utilising ATLAS.ti and NVivo with Google Earth: discovering new opportunities for geo-coding
7. Combining/triangulating data types using software packages and how to maximize its value in research
8. Exploring different/multiple uses of the QDA software packages such as supporting systematic literature reviews 9. The cultural aspects of using QDA software in academia: what are the main drivers for adoption?
10. Aligning the methodology thoughts of software developers and researchers: is there a common ground?
11. Open source QDA packages: how do they perform compared to commercial packages?
12. Implications of software choice in terms of their methodology and practical utility
13. Using QDA software on research methodologies that have not traditionally relied on QDA software
14. What’s new in video analysis software: exploring new techniques of analysing multimedia
15. Examples of case studies on how QDA software has helped enhance qualitative research processes
16. How to integrate QDA software into mixed methods research: what are the solutions and pitfalls?
17. How to use QDA software to accelerate the process of qualitative data analysis and data reporting?
18. How to disseminate the use software packages to acquire a better status as in statistical packages (e.g. SPSS)
19. Discussing best practices in conducting QDA training courses to academics and industry practitioners
