The University of Adelaide Entrepreneurs’ Challenge echallenge is an initiative of The University of Adelaide which aims to foster the successful development of new ideas into investment-ready early-stage companies. The echallenge is a business planning competition based on the Massachusetts Institute of Technology’s ‘MIT $50K’ Competition.
One such entry in 2009 is the ChikPOS Checkout System. The ChikPOS business idea is a graphical user interface point-of-sales system sold modifiable-off-the-shelf. It’s minimal hardware interface lacks a physical keyboard, the multi-touch screen renders a virtual keyboard when necessary. The ChikPOS functions as a business system (producing “decision” reports), a high definition television screen (able to output Bluray quality video), billboard (an effective advertising channel), translater (allows a shop assistant and a foreign customer to communicate), texter (within store). It is hardware independent, and is an all-in-one system that can be modified to any type of POS system, on resale of the system. It is EPEAT Gold- also XBRL-compliant. The software is a production of Jeremy Shum Invent (JSI), and was developed by a computer systems engineering team for an Australian equivalent of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology ‘MIT $50K’ competition.
